CHAIN STYLES
Anchor | Gucci | Marine

The anchor chain has repeating oval links that are uniform in size and arranged both horizontally and vertically, usually with a vertical bar in the middle of each link. The design is inspired by a chain used to attach an anchor to a boat.

Variations
  • Marine chain: Only every other link is an anchor chain
  • Flat anchor chain: The outer chain links have a flat surface
  • Round anchor chain: The outer surface is slightly round

Ball | Bead | Beaded | Pelline

The balls/beads can be solid or hollow. Hollow balls/beads are usually selected to reduce the weight of the chain. The balls/beads can be placed at regular or irregular intervals with links in between them or strung tightly adjacent to each other.

Like with other chains, the balls/beads come in a variety of sizes and with different types of clasps.

Ball Bead & Bar | Bamboo

Like with other chains, the balls/beads and bars come in a variety of sizes and with different types of clasps.

Bar | Link & Bar

Made of small bar-shaped links connected together by small jump rings. The bars can be of pretty much any shape, such as curved, twisted or elongated, for example, and can be hollow or solid.

These chains tend to be more fragile because the jump rings that connect each bar are small and often thin. If they are thicker and soldered, it may be safe to conclude that the chain is pretty solid.

Box

Simple link-style chain made up of square links that resemble a box. This is a very sturdy chain with a uniform appearance.

Variations
  • Square link chain: Made from round wire that is rolled flat and then folded into square links that form open-style boxes or cubes
Picture

Cable

This is the most common link-style chain. It consists of individual oval or round links interlocked in a unique pattern. Each link lays at ninety degrees to the next.

Variations
  • Double Link Cable chain: Has a repeating pattern of interconnected round or oval links that are doubled
  • Figure-8 | Infinity chain: Alternating links that are twisted or cubed into a figure-8 pattern

Cardano | Boston Link

This is a very stylish brazed link chain. It consists of uniform series of rectangular decorative links that merge beautiful into each other
Picture

Curb

Link-style chain variation of the cable chain with uniformly sized round or oval links that have been twisted and often diamond cut so that they may lie flat.

Similar
  • Singapore or Twisted Curb chain: Has twisted or curled links
  • Parallel chain: Has two side-by-side links in each link position
Picture

Fancy

Link-style chain that has different variations, such as specific shaped links, specific finishes, attached dangles, etc. Decorative features may be hearts, stars, or flowers, for example.

Variations
  • Byzantine chain: Has pairs of oval or round links joined together and alternating horizontally and vertically, where each link connects to four other links. (seen in the provided image)
  • Franco chain: Created by placing two to four curb chains flat and against each other and interweaving the v-shaped links together
  • Tile chain: Miniature rectangular tile-like links that connect together
  • Heart chain: Small heart shapes linked together
  • Seed or Barley Corn chain: Has uniformly twisted round and oval links

Figaro

This chain is similar to the curb chain in that it has flattened twisted links, but it doesn't have a uniform link size or shape like curb chain does. Typically, it will have between one and five shorter links alternating between a single longer link, creating an attractive repeating pattern throughout the length of the chain.

This style of chain originated in Italy and was named after the popular Italian opera The Marriage of Figaro.

Variation
  • Long & Short chain: All the links have different lengths
  • Figarope: Similar, but with twisted links to create a woven rope effect
Picture

Herringbone

Consists of several rows of v-shaped links that lay completely flat. The direction of the links is alternated with each new row so as to create a herringbone pattern.
Picture

Mesh

Made from very fine thread that is woven into a tubular chain to give it a fabric-like quality. There are a number of production methods, including Milanese mesh and stocking mesh.
Picture

Omega

Popular for its strength and mirror-like shine, this is a wide chain that is not completely round. It is made of individual metal plates aligned next to each other and crimped to an underlying mesh base.

Compared to the snake chain, the omega chain is flat and non-wavy.
Picture

Paperclip

The paperclip chain features oval-shaped links for a simple, yet original feel. The links can come in a variety of sizes.

This modern chain is a great way to add a little something different to your wardrobe. As an extra layer, it's a great way to add a bit of flair.
Picture

Popcorn | Coreana

The popcorn chain is made of identical machine-stamped segments of flat metal in much the same manner as is the snake chain. The evenly-distributed segments are hollow and can be flat, rounded or concave. Just like popcorn, it's delicate, soft, and light and therefore very comfortable to wear.

Variations
  • Flat links, round links, and concave links
Picture

Rolo | Cascade | Belcher

Consists of alternating oval or round links that are connected together. The links are usually flat on the inside and smaller and thicker than a basic link chain, which makes the chain more sturdy.

Variations
  • Double Rolo chain: Doubled alternating oval or round links
  • Flat Rolo chain: Chain links have a flat surface
Picture

Rope

This chain appears as two or more twisted strands of chain spiraled together. The rows of metal links are weaved together to look like a two-stranded rope.

Variations
  • Twisted Rope chain: The links are twisted
  • French Rope chain: The finished braid has a spiraling effect
  • Dragon chain: Has oval or round links used in pairs with a vertical pair joined by a horizontal pair to a vertical pair
Picture

Satellite | Saturn

Consists of a row of round links interspersed with beads. This chain is often used for rosary bracelets and necklaces.
Picture

Serpentine

Composed of hammered s-shaped links that overlap laterally. The links are laid next to each other with another identical set of links laid in parallel below the first and connected together.

Variations
  • Twisted serpentine, nugget or tinsel chain
Picture

Singapore | Twisted Curb

Consists of a series of flat diamond cut chain links, several of which are interwoven to form a diamond shape and then, in turn, are twisted and flattened to form a chain.
Picture

Snake | Cocoon

Consists of smooth round plates, rings or bands with a slight bend in the middle. They are closely connected together to form a continuous flexible tube with a slight zigzag effect, reminiscent of a snake's skin. It has an almost closed surface profile that ensures a very elegant and flexible chain.
Picture

Wheat | Palm | Espiga

Has a symmetrical form of a rope chain with small figure-8 links that gives it an almost square profile. It's made of four strands of oval and twisted oval links, braided and woven together to make an eye-catching chain.

Variations
  • Square Wheat chain: Has square links
